Summer Bridging Activities

Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe that summer break will be here so soon!  I have put together a list of resources you might find useful to help your child continue to enjoy reading, writing and math throughout the summer to maintain all that they have developed and learned in Grade 1.

Enjoy!

Raz-Kids:  Your child will have continued access to Raz-Kids this summer.  This is a great program that can be used on the i-pad or computer to help your child not only work on fluency but comprehension and understanding.  I will make sure you all have the password at the Portfolio share on Thursday.

Apps for the i-pad:
TeachMe: 1st Grade:  (0.99 cents US) - Students have used this in class  is an app that focuses on writing, spelling, and math. With this app, children answer questions and solve problems using their own handwriting. The app then reads the answers using a writing recognition engine. If your child needs help, TeachMe: 1st Grade will show them how to write the correct answer including the proper stroke order. Parents can select which subjects display, set difficulty level, choose specific ques- tions, and even review performance history for each subject to check how their child is doing. Toontastic: (free) - is a creative learning tool that empowers kids to draw, animate, and share their own stories through imaginative play. Toontastic teaches key storytelling principles. Children are walked through creating the story arc: setup, conflict, challenge, climax, or resolution. Creating a story is as easy as putting on a puppet show — children simply press the record button, move the characters onscreen, and tell their stories. Once they're done, Toontastic will play back their animation and voice as a cartoon for them to share with friends and family
