Keeping in Touch

Today during our IT time students individually typed on the same Google Doc that Mrs. Turner was on and responding to but instead of sitting next to them, she was doing so from Singapore. Each student had the Doc open on their iPad and they were fascinated to see each other's words appear above and below theirs. And if that wasn't enough, their teacher four time zones away was typing too, working to keep up with the barrage of questions and comments shared with her.

In the end, a single document was created with all the student questions and Mrs. Turner's responses. The print version is formatted in an organized table so the kids can read over and revisit the experience.

Here's what it looks like when 22 students and a teacher all work on the same Google Doc (in 4x speed)

Poetry Museum

Students will begin a Poetry Writing Unit. They are bringing in objects to help inspire their writing.

Math - Making 10

Grade 1 has been hard at work learning strategies to make "easy addition" by making it 10!
The video below gives a great example of how we are using 10 frames to understand the concepts and get us ready for adding bigger numbers.  I encourage you to watch this with your child and they can help explain it to you!  :)
